Haya is a PhD student at SAMS (Scottish Association for Marine Science) and a graduate of the Nordic Master in Sustainable Production and Utilisation of Marine Bioresources, where she trained in Sweden and Norway in fish physiology, aquaculture systems, and seafood production. Her work has covered nutritional research, fish endocrinology, and hatchery development.

Her research is based at SMSRC, University of Khorfakkan, and looks at thermal stress in Arabian Gulf aquaculture species, one of the warmest marine environments in the world and a useful window into how farmed fish cope with rising sea temperatures. Her wider interests are alternative aquafeeds, biotechnology, and new approaches to aquaculture.
