Dr. Tarig Ali

Using innovative chemistry and material science to drive environmental sustainability and solutions.

Dr. Tarig Elshaarani is a Formulation Chemist specializing biosensor formulation, and heavy metals and plastic contamination, with particular focus on trace and radioactive metals as well as microplastics in marine and aquatic environments. His work combines chemical engineering, analytical chemistry, and marine science to develop practical tools for environmental monitoring and risk assessment. His current research focuses on the detection of heavy metals and emerging contaminants, alongside studies on microplastics and their role as vectors for toxic elements in marine systems.

Dr. Tarig Ali

Dr. Elshaarani has played an active role in regional and international collaboration, serving as National Coordinator for the IAEA regional project RAF1010, which focused on marine microplastics monitoring and harmonized assessment approaches. Through this role, he supported national sampling activities, data reporting, and regional comparability of marine pollution datasets. He participated in field-based monitoring to assess pollutant distribution in sediments and waters, particularly along Red Sea coastal environments.

Dr. Tarig Ali

He has over 10 years of teaching experience in chemistry and applied biochemistry and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on biosensors, polymer-based materials, heavy metal adsorption, and environmental monitoring. His work is driven by the goal of developing simple, reliable, and field-applicable technologies to support sustainable marine environmental management.
